Community Guidelines
Last Updated: May 28, 2026
1. Our Mission
Music Industry Community (MIC) is a professional networking platform built for the music industry. We connect artists, venues, promoters, managers, engineers, and every professional in between. These guidelines exist to keep MIC a safe, respectful, and productive space where real business gets done and genuine connections are made.
By using MIC, you agree to follow these guidelines. They apply to all content you create, share, or interact with on the platform — including posts, comments, messages, profiles, bios, photos, videos, reviews, and event listings.
2. What We Encourage
MIC thrives when members:
- Share their work — post gig recaps, new releases, studio sessions, and behind-the-scenes content
- Build genuine connections — network with intent, support fellow professionals, collaborate
- Engage constructively — offer feedback, share knowledge, celebrate others' wins
- Represent themselves honestly — use real credentials, accurate bios, and truthful information
- Conduct business professionally — honor bookings, communicate clearly, respect agreements
3. Prohibited Content
The following content is not allowed on MIC. Violations may result in content removal, account restrictions, or permanent ban depending on severity.
Zero Tolerance (Immediate Removal + Account Action)
- Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) — Any sexual content involving minors. Reported to NCMEC and law enforcement immediately.
- Credible threats of violence — Direct threats to harm specific individuals or groups
- Terrorism and violent extremism — Content that promotes, glorifies, or recruits for terrorist organizations
- Human trafficking and exploitation — Content that facilitates trafficking or sexual exploitation
- Doxxing — Publishing someone's private information (home address, phone number, etc.) without consent
- Non-consensual intimate imagery — Sharing sexual/intimate images of someone without their consent
Prohibited (Content Removed, Escalating Consequences)
- Hate speech — Content that attacks people based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or national origin
- Harassment and bullying — Targeted, repeated, or severe attacks against individuals. This includes brigading, pile-ons, and coordinated harassment.
- Sexual content — Explicit sexual material, pornography, or sexually suggestive content involving nudity. Artistic expression (album art, music videos) is evaluated in context.
- Graphic violence — Gratuitous depictions of violence, gore, or injury not in a newsworthy or educational context
- Self-harm promotion — Content that promotes, glorifies, or provides instructions for self-harm or suicide
- Dangerous activities — Content promoting illegal drug use, dangerous challenges, or activities likely to cause serious harm
- Impersonation — Pretending to be another person, band, venue, or organization with intent to deceive
- Fraud and scams — Fake booking offers, phishing, advance-fee schemes, or other deceptive practices targeting music professionals
- Spam — Unsolicited bulk messaging, repetitive promotional content, or bot-generated activity
- Intellectual property violations — Posting content you don't have rights to (unauthorized recordings, stolen artwork, etc.)
4. Communication Standards
MIC is a professional platform. While we understand the music industry has its own culture and language, we expect members to maintain basic respect in all interactions.
- Profanity in posts/comments — Casual profanity is flagged for review. Excessive or targeted profanity directed at individuals will be removed.
- Direct messages — Private conversations between connections are not actively moderated. However, harassment reported via DM will be investigated and actioned.
- Reviews and feedback — Honest criticism is welcome. Personal attacks disguised as reviews are not. Critique the work, not the person.
- Booking communications — Professional conduct is expected in all booking-related interactions. Ghosting, bad-faith negotiations, and no-shows may result in account flags visible to other users.
5. How We Moderate
MIC uses a combination of automated systems and human review to enforce these guidelines:
- Automated scanning — Text and images are analyzed by AI systems before and after publishing. Content that clearly violates our guidelines is blocked automatically.
- Flagging for review — Content that may violate guidelines but requires context is flagged for human review. It may remain visible while under review.
- User reports — Any member can report content or users they believe violate these guidelines. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team.
- Human review — Our moderation team makes final decisions on flagged and reported content. We aim to review all reports within 24 hours.
Our automated systems are not perfect. If your content is incorrectly removed, you can appeal the decision through our moderation review process.
6. Enforcement Actions
When content or behavior violates these guidelines, we take action proportional to the severity and frequency of the violation:
- 1 — Warning + Content Removal: First-time or minor violations. The content is removed and you receive a notification explaining why. No account restrictions.
- 2 — Temporary Restriction: Repeated violations or moderate severity. Your ability to post, comment, or message may be restricted for 24 hours to 7 days.
- 3 — Account Suspension or Permanent Ban: Severe violations, repeated offenses after warnings, or zero-tolerance violations. Your account may be permanently removed from the platform.
Zero-tolerance violations (CSAM, credible violence threats, terrorism) result in immediate permanent ban and referral to law enforcement without prior warning.
7. Reporting Content
If you see content that violates these guidelines, please report it:
- On posts and comments — Use the "Report" option in the post/comment menu
- On profiles — Use the "Report User" option on their profile page
- In messages — Use the "Report" option in the conversation menu
- By email — Contact support@musicindustrycommunity.com for urgent matters
All reports are confidential. We do not reveal who reported content to the person being reported. False or malicious reporting (weaponizing the report system to harass others) is itself a violation of these guidelines.
8. Appeals
If you believe your content was removed in error or your account was restricted unfairly, you can appeal the decision. Appeals are reviewed by a different moderator than the one who made the original decision.
To appeal, contact support@musicindustrycommunity.com with your username and a description of what happened. We aim to resolve appeals within 48 hours.
9. Child Safety
MIC is intended for users aged 13 and older. We have zero tolerance for any content that sexualizes, exploits, or endangers minors. This includes:
- Any sexual or suggestive content involving minors
- Grooming behavior or attempts to contact minors for sexual purposes
- Sharing or soliciting child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
- Content that facilitates child exploitation in any form
Violations are reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and relevant law enforcement agencies as required by federal law (18 U.S.C. § 2258A). Accounts involved are permanently banned without appeal.
10. Platform-Specific Rules
In addition to the general guidelines above, specific areas of MIC have additional expectations:
- Profiles and bios — Must accurately represent you or your organization. No misleading credentials, fake verification claims, or deceptive information.
- Event listings — Must represent real events. Fake events created to mislead or scam are prohibited.
- Booking system — Offers and agreements made through MIC's booking tools should be honored in good faith. Systematic bad-faith behavior may result in booking privileges being revoked.
- MIC Match — Profiles in MIC Match must accurately represent your skills, availability, and rates. Misrepresentation to secure bookings is prohibited.
11. Changes to These Guidelines
We may update these guidelines as our platform evolves and as new challenges emerge. Significant changes will be announced via platform notification. Continued use of MIC after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated guidelines.
